Can Disney Plus be a big threat to Netflix Dominance in Streaming?

Can Disney Plus be a big threat to Netflix Dominance in Streaming?

Netflix is the biggest streaming service in the world. The streaming giant have tons of content of their own and some of others to get people’s attention. Currently Netflix have 148.8 million subscriber globally among which 60.2 members are from United States. There has not been a company that has come closed to dethroning Netflix. Amazon Prime has gathered more than 100 million subscriber but is still far behind Netflix.

However things might changed in course of couple of years. The biggest movie production company Disney is launching its streaming service Disney Plus. Disney is dominating the box office with Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, Live action and many more but the company is still hungry for more. Disney is hoping to take the number one spot in streaming industry as well.

The anticipation around Disney Plus is getting day by day. we are just three month shy of its release date. There is no doubt that Disney will come roaring when the streaming platform releases. According to the recent Survey, 14.5 % of the streaming giant subscriber from United States might consider leaving Netflix for Disney Plus. The percentage might not look high but the head of Netflix should round up their heads because its more than 8.5 million customers.

The cancellation of nearly 8 million subscriber could cost nearly 13 billion each year. The numbers are humongous and I think the head of Netflix have started to gather up and have some serious discussion. However it does not mean all the people who participated in the survey will cancel their subscription.

Personally i think Netflix is getting lot of viewership from other Studio content rather than their own original series. Yes there are some very popular Netflix original series like Stranger Things, Mindhunter, Glow, Sex Education and others. However Marvel movies and Television, BBC drama show and other studio shows have been providing tank full of money and increase in subscribers.

As Disney Streaming Service launches, Disney will surely withdraw their movies and television shows. Captain Marvel will be the first Marvel movie not be released in Netflix in United States. However, Subscriber from United Kingdom and Canada can enjoy the movie on Netflix.

Disney Plus is coming this November with a bang. Disney Plus will include all Marvel movies, Pixar movies, Star Wars movies, Original live action movies and many more. Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki, WandaVision are some television shows coming for Marvel fans. John Favreau The Mandalorian is highly anticipated as well.

There is another factor that can affect Netflix number of subscribers. WB is extracting their CW show from Netflix. The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Supergirl and most recent Riverdale is being pulled off. WB will probably add those show either in WB streaming service or sell it to higher bidder.

Netflix is pretty safe for now. The have enough content to hook up their audience for a couple of years. However things might change after couple of years. Disney will come with skyrocket pace and try to dethrone Netflix from number one spot.
